Easy Street Mystery Quilt by Bonnie Hunter

Most of the projects I've been working on over the past few weeks are gift related (as in Christmas!) so I'm unable to post much of what is occupying my days for fear that the recipient may read my blog that day. :)

BUT...I am able to share about one of the projects I've just started.  It's a mystery quilt called Easy Street by Bonnie Hunter.  I'm as huge fan (remember me sharing about her workshop I attended back in July of this year?)  Well, bless her heart, as a means of "thanks and giving back" to all her fans, each year she offers the opportunity to participate in a free mystery quilt.  She releases the clues (instructions), one step at a time on a weekly basis.  Clue #2 was just released this past Friday.  The mystery is that we have no idea what the finished quilt top will look like until the final clue is revealed.  Of course, I've not seen a quilt Bonnie Hunter has designed that I didn't love.

To see the progress of many other quilters participating....then simply visit the link below:

The first clue was revealed on Black Friday.  I was out of town for Thanksgiving so I didn't get to start until the middle of the last week.

First clue involved making 384 twosies....

Then sewing them together to make 192 four-patches....

After sewing them, we had to "twist" and press the center seam (something I had never done before I might add). This step reduces the bulk of the fabric seams so that the block lays flat.

Now I must scoot and get started cutting the pieces for Clue 2....using purples and the black on white prints as seen in my first photo above...AND continue working on the ton of other projects I'm trying to finish.  It's a good thing I am at my best when multitasking   I accomplish more when I have lots of variety and projects going on at the same time.  One project at a time is BORING! LOLOL

Seriously consider jumping in and making the mystery quilt along with all of us....you won't be sorry!

    1. Mary...thanks. I have never used grey in a quilt before but after putting these 4-patches together I fell in love with this particular fabric so much that I purchased an additional 10 yards of it for future projects. It makes a great neutral for any color. Of course since it was a clearance bolt....got it for next to nothing. Lol

  3. Theresa, you caught up quickly for not having been home for step 1 release. Your 4 patches look great. I'm still behind you a bit. I'm getting close to having all 192 (think I'm at 150 tonight). Hope to catch up before clue 3. Don't you just love Bonnie's choice of colors. I sure do.

    1. Dar, originally I had planned to use reproduction fabrics from my stash, but while away visiting family over Thanksgiving, I changed my mind and did some shopping with my mom (who I talked into doing the mystery with us). I've loved Bonnie's color selection from the start but didn't really have anything in my stash except a couple pieces of purples and turquoises...nothing lime green, black on white nor grey. I'm so glad I decided to shop! :) Keep up the good work...hopefully we both will be caught up entirely before clue #3.

  4. Can't wait to see your geese. This is my first mystery and I'm enjoying seeing everyone doing the same project. Love your tractor quilt a few posts ago.

    1. Thank you Judy! I'm wondering what part of Virginia do you live? We lived in Newport News for 4 years...I truly miss it!

  6. Theresa - I am a former New Yorker, from the Albany area. Oswego is a beautiful area, especially if you like snow and wind. My sister graduated for SUNY Oswego. I am having the same issue with pictures of the projects that I am working on. Christmas presents :) I am just waiting for my companion ruler to arrive to finish up my geese. All of my background is cut and ready to go. Have fun with Easy Street.

    1. Faith...you are going to love your new companion ruler. Thankfully, we don't get as much snow here in Owego as they do in Oswego (which is a couple hours north/east of us. We have only lived here for 6 years and I could certainly do without the snow. I miss warmer weather. :)

  8. Looking Great and I so totally agree...one project at a time is not for me...of course, if I'd stick with just one project my geese would all be flying by now...they're not..lol - Good Luck!
