Just Love Productive Days!

It is SO COLD here in Upstate New York...oh my goodness!!!!!!  It's just too cold to do most things in the house so I forced myself to cozy up in my sewing room. :) :) :)  Of course, I must be honest and say that it was very tempting to just bundle up, snuggle under some quilts and read the day away with a cup of coffee, hot tea or hot chocolate.

I finished piecing together 12 quilt blocks for my Design Challenge quilt...YIPPEE!!!

I'm really tickled pink with how they are turning out so far.  The instructions for making these blocks can be found HERE.  I was able to pull out little scraps to make all the sky, chimney, house and door pieces (even though my scrap basket doesn't look like it has been touched and is just as full as when I started!).  I did end up using three different FQ's to cut the roof pieces from because of their larger size.

My design is slowly coming together in my brain and I'm excited to share that I plan to post the instructions for a SECOND block on Friday.  It's going to be so cute....I promise. :)

On a totally different subject, I was able to web together the 144 Split 9-Patch blocks that I have been making as my Leader/Enders since Bonnie Hunter issued the challenge last summer.

I even got the top four rows sewn to each other.  Slow and steady wins the race! :)  Interested in doing the same thing?  Bonnie Hunter's Leader/Ender Challenge and instructions can be found HERE.  Not familiar with the Webbing process?  Bonnie Hunter's Webbing Tutorial can be found HERE.

Last but not least....the final project I worked on last night was to make the binding for a special quilt that I can't reveal until it is received by someone for his birthday.

I know that just as soon as I share it in this blog, "he" will see it and the surprise will be ruined. :)

What did YOU get accomplished yesterday?

Until next time....keep quilting (and smiling)!

  1. You have been one busy lady! In Kansas we will have record cold again tomorrow but no snow thank goodness! One of my small sewing groups met yesterday but as the hostess I never seem to get much done. I'm also working on a leader/ender project from Bonnie Hunter and I tried webbing a top. I love that idea. Can't wait to see your birthday surprise! Looking forward to seeing your new block.

    1. Claudia, do you always host that particular sewing group or do you take turns going to other homes? Sounds like tons of fun. Today was even colder than yesterday and sadly I didn't get much done other than some designing plans. My fingers stayed to cold to do any sewing.

    2. 9 times out of 10 I'm the hostess. We own a small house a few blocks from where we live. It's my sewing house but also a place for company to stay. We meet there because we have room to spread out and we don't have to "displace" our husbands. Two in the group still work as teachers so during the school year we meet at 3 until 7 and everyone brings their supper. In the summer we meet at 10 and either bring lunch or eat out and usually quit about 5. The 6 of us have been friends for years. We all worked at the same school. They were teachers and I was the high school secretary.

    3. Well Claudia, all I can say is your group setup sounds fantastic and I'm jealous! How wonderful to have good friends who enjoy the same things and get together on a regular basis. :)

    4. Thank you Theresa. I just discovered your blog and I'm enjoying reading your past posts. I don't have a blog but I get lots of inspiration from reading others.

  2. Oh I know how cold you are . . . I live in the Buffalo area. I am not looking forward to the wind kicking up in a couple days! Definitely won't be leaving the house then. I have the essentials . . . toilet paper, two gallons of milk, pasta, and fabric. I'm good to go!! :o)

    1. Kathy, you certainly do know about this cold. LOL I don't think I could handle the Buffalo area of the state. It's hard enough surviving in this part. Since moving to NY 7 years ago I've learned to keep a constant supply of all the essentials you listed. :)
